Abstract It is common in cognitive science to ascribe psychological predicates the brain, i.e. assert that brain sees, feels, thinks, etc. This has prompted philosophical debate. According Nonsense View, relevant locutions of scientists are nonsensical or false (Bennett and Hacker 2003, 2007). Literal they literal truths report properties brains (Dennett 2007; Crane 2015; Figdor 2018). In this paper, I propose Synecdoche according which scientists’ figurative, with ‘brain’ referring human being, such ‘the thinks’ reports thinking not brain. compare view dominant views literature argue it a plausible alternative. One consequence there no reason believe indicate empirical support for claim possess properties.
